Malmö FF beats Colorado to Gall signing

Rapids transfer target Romain Gall signed a four-year contract with Malmö FF, the Swedish club announced Wednesday.

According to reports out of Swedish newspaper Expressen, GIF Sundsvall parted with the American midfielder for a transfer fee close to 5,000,000 SEK ($564,025 USD).

Multiple clubs were competing to sign Gall, including Colorado Rapids, as well as AIK and Hammarby IF.

GIF Sundsvall attacking midfielder and Rapids transfer target Romain Gall spoke to local newspaper Sundsvalls Tidning Sunday about the speculation surrounding his future at the Swedish club.

“I know what I can do and how hard I’ve been training through the years. I knew I had the quality, so it was just about timing and self-confidence. I know what kind of player I am so this is only payment for all that hard work,” Gall explained.

The American attacking midfielder – with playing experience in the United States, France, and Sweden – has been linked to a wide range of clubs, including Swedish mainstays Malmo FF, Hammarby IF, and AIK, as well as the Colorado Rapids.

If reports out of Swedish newspaper Expressen are to be believed, the Colorado Rapids have a tough hill to climb if they desire to bring Romain Gall to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park this transfer window.

Malmö FF – winners of Allveskan in four out of the last five seasons – are keen on signing Gall to fill the void left by Mattias Svanberg’s departure. Svanberg recently transferred from the Swedish giants to Bologna in Italy’s Serie A.

Rumor: Rapids pursuing American attacking midfielder Romain Gall

The MLS summer transfer window is underway and Rapids General Manager Padraig Smith seems ready to provide a much-needed spark to Colorado’s dismal attacking play this season.

According to MLSTransfers, the Rapids “have submitted a bid for American attacking midfielder Romain Gall.”

If his name sounds familiar, you may likely recall that he was a “central figure” of the USMNT U-20 team circa 2014.

Gall, now 23, currently plays for Swedish club GIF Sundsvall in the Allsvenskan. A winger by trade, Gall has scored ten goals in thirty-eight senior appearances across all competitions on both sides of the attacking midfield during his time with the Swedish side.
