Season in a Sentence
Abdul Rwatubyaye quietly impressed on loan in the Switchbacks defense and was voted the club’s Fan Favorite Player of the year.
Performance Review
Rwatubyaye joined Colorado midseason as a result of the trade that sent Benny Feilhaber back to Kansas City. The Rwandan International immediately went out on loan and never played a match in a Rapids kit in 2019. That said, Rwatubyaye established a reputation as a strong defender on the Springs’ back line and will look to convince the Rapids to give him a shot in the first team come the new year.
Future Expectations
It would likely take a herculean injury crisis to see Rwatubyaye surpass Lalas Abubakar, Auston Trusty, Drew Moor, and Kortne Ford on the depth chart. Though the young defender looks promising, he’ll likely rejoin Colorado Springs on loan for most of 2020.
