Season in a Sentence

Bassett built upon his strong 2018 introduction to the first team, but couldn’t nail down a consistent starting role under three different managers.

Performance Review

Bassett tripled his prior season’s minutes across fourteen starts and six substitute appearances through 2019. However, he was never able to wrestle away a consistent center midfield role from Jack Price or Kellyn Acosta. This isn’t necessarily a problem. Cole is getting significant experience and is still only eighteen years old. There’s hardly any reason to dwell on negatives.

Future Expectations

The Littleton native spent time in the offseason training with Arsenal’s Under-23s. Last year when he did the same with Freiberg, it led to a transfer bid. There’s reason to believe clubs in Europe are aware of Bassett’s promising play, so development is a priority concern for the Rapids. 2020 will provide an opportunity for Bassett to take his play to the next level. It’s clear the right people are watching.
