While he didn’t stand out in any particular statistical categories, Kellyn Acosta’s first full season with the Rapids was consistent, reliable, and generally favorable.

Performance Review

Kellyn Acosta is a talented player – of this most are quite certain. He’s clearly demonstrated during his time in Colorado that he has a little bit of everything to offer in midfield. While he didn’t prove to be a top performer in 2019, there wasn’t necessarily a lot of bad things to say about his performances either. Above all else, Acosta proved to be a diligent midfield workhorse that met expectations.

Future Expectations

Acosta signed a new, long-term contract with Colorado that will keep him in Burgundy until 2023. The Rapids have clearly signaled a belief in his potential to be a franchise player. The question for Acosta is whether or not he can up his game to the next level when midfield reinforcements arrive in the winter.

Questions like these have been posed since his disappointing exit from Camp Cupcake last January and they haven’t gotten any simpler to answer. At one point, Acosta looked to be the future of the USMNT’s midfield, 2020 will tell whether or not he can force his way back into Berhalter’s plans.
