The Colorado Rapids are attempting to sign Norwegian youth international striker Sander Svendsen on loan from Hammarby IF, a source close to Svendsen’s agent told Rapids Republic Wednesday morning.

Representatives from Colorado apparently have been in contact with the forward’s agent this week regarding a loan deal that would secure more playing time for Svendsen, who was once heralded as one “of the best young talents in world football.”

Svendsen – supposedly “keen on a move to MLS” – is expected to see less of the field following Hammarby’s successful acquisition of Montenegro International Vladimir Rodic. Fotboll Direkt first reported Monday that Hammarby was seeking to loan Svendsen to a team in MLS if the club was able to sign the Montenegrin attacker.

Svendsen, 21, does not have American citizenship or a green card, so the potential loan move is likely contingent on Colorado’s ability to free-up an extra international slot. Yannick Boli, who occupies one of those slots, is rumored to be leaving the club after only scoring once across fourteen competitive appearances for the Rapids.

The move would certainly share similarities with other recent Colorado acquisitions. Edgar Castillo and Joe Mason both joined the Rapids this season on short-term loans in the 2018 Primary Transfer Window (though the latter ultimately returned to Wolverhampton). Colorado also reportedly attempted to bring in attacking midfielder Romain Gall, who plays in the same league as Svendsen.

If a deal is successful, Colorado has until 10:59 AM MDT Wednesday evening to finalize an agreement, although an announcement might be made as late as 8:00 AM Thursday morning.
