Defender Kip Colvey “has been loaned to Colorado Springs Switchbacks F.C.,” according to an announcement made by the Colorado Rapids on Friday.
Colvey, 24, joined Colorado via the MLS Waiver Draft after being released by San Jose Earthquakes at the end of the 2017 regular season. Colvey has only appeared in three games for the Rapids during their 2018 campaign and has struggled to find playing time at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Colvey has previous experience in the United Soccer League, as he spent parts of the 2016 and 2017 seasons on loan to Sacramento Republic and Reno 1868, respectively.
Switchbacks F.C. head coach Steve Trittschuh spoke fondly of Colvey after the loan was made official, saying “[h]e’s eager to play and hopefully, he can come in and do a job for us […] We just need to get him here so he can get on the same page with how we want to play.”
Colvey will be available for selection by Switchbacks F.C. this Saturday. The Rapids have retained the right to recall Colvey from his loan early.
